Plastic surgery

Rhinoplasty (nose jobs) and prominent ear surgery belong to the "true classics" in the field of plastic surgery and another major part of ENT surgery is reconstruction. Whether patients had an accident involving head injuries or have suffered facial disfiguration caused by a tumor or just for beauty reasons: plastic surgery is a highly sensitive field and head and neck surgeons have to face high demands.

Plastic surgery in our ENT Clinic includes reconstructive and aesthetic correction of the nose and ears as well as reconstructive facial surgery like scar correction.

Rhinoplasty

The surgical procedure when correcting the external shape of your nose is depending on the individual anatomic circumstances. According to the existing nasal deformity (humped nose, crooked nose, saddleback nose, deformation of the nose tip or nostrils) the appropriate method has to be chosen to achieve the desired result of the external nose shape. Since this frequently goes along with impeded nasal breathing a surgical correction of the nasal septum or turbinate is often required. Being aware of the threedimensional anatomy and functional structure of the internal and external nose it is the ENT specialist with additional qualification as plastic surgeon who can bring cosmetic and functional requirements in line. When surgical corrections of the internal nose are done at the same time we try to avoid tamponing as far as possible as the latest endonasal minimally invasive fixation methods on the nose septum and radio frequency treatment of the soft part structures no longer require this and detrimental deformation of the external nose caused by tamponing can be ruled out.

Prominent ear surgery

Prominent ears or other malformations of the ear often lead to mental stress due to social exclusion and especially children are teased. Consequently, it makes sense for children in preschool age to undergo corrective plastic surgery although this kind of surgery can also be done later in life. This operation is carried out under general anaesthesia and adolescents and adults might undergo this surgery under local anaesthesia. It is done in modified sutur technique (Mustardé) through a skin incision behind the ears which is no longer visible following surgery. This technique involves the reconstruction of the anthelix fold (missing fold causes the ear to protrude at the back) and the reduced angle between skull and auricle. Additionally, this technique prevents by procedure the formation of visible cartilage edges so that a natural result is achieved and the ear does not appear to have been surgically modified.

Scar correction

In our ENT clinic we use microsurgical scar correction procedures as well as injections to enhance tissue volume (as done in wrinkle correction) and ultra pulsed CO2 laser treatment methods.
